First, the complete User Experience has to be captured and then designed. After learning and understanding the process of writing in Laban notation, an approach was explored from a high level incorporating the functionality and the modes for the application.

Detailed Wireframes Lead the Way

A user experience based on spatial design concepts. The design had to include the ability to be able to find one of the thousands of symbols easily and allow for placement at any point along a score.

For consistency and performance, a typeface was created by rebuilding the symbols with pixel perfect density and accuracy.

Unique constraints to consider include:

Ability to “Pin” pallets in physical locations.

The Microsoft Hololens has a narrow field of view, so the work area had to feel open and usable while not blocking the user’s ability to see the stage.
